Leviticus 19:31 NLT
“Do not defile yourselves by turning to mediums or to those who consult the spirits of the dead. I am the Lord your God.”
Do you love yourself?
There is a notion about all humans – that we love ourselves, so we compare the costs and benefits of any endeavour before embarking on it. Even with that, we do not know all the intricacies. Therefore, we cannot do without God’s leading because the I AM WHO I AM does not lead astray. While staying in Egypt, the people of Israel became complacent and got accustomed to a particular way of life due to their stay in Egypt.
Over time, abnormal became normal, but since God is love and does not desire that anyone perish, He had to remind us that He’s in the picture, and therefore, the culture of consulting mediums or spirits of the dead must stop. God reiterated that failure to comply will defile them. However, did you know that the synonym for defile is “destroy,” which means consulting mediums or the spirits of the dead leads to destruction? Since we love ourselves, let’s steer clear of any relationship with mediums or the spirits of the dead.
Prayer
Dear God, I pray I will not engage in any endeavour that leads to destruction. Help me, Lord Jesus. Amen.
