Leviticus 19:30 NLT
“Keep my Sabbath days of rest, and show reverence toward my sanctuary. I am the Lord.”
Show reverence
Today, the emphasis is on the second instruction in the referenced scripture, which centers on showing reverence to the Tabernacle or, better yet, God’s sanctuary. The instruction reported in the referenced scripture requires action. At a point, the Israelites became so good at showmanship that the Lord spoke through Isaiah, saying they honoured Him with their lips, but their hearts were a million miles away. Friends, God is not interested in showmanship but desires that we honour Him in truth and in spirit.
It is important to note that the showing of reverence was not conditioned on the priest’s persona. Although the priest’s actions and inactions affect how people perceive the sanctuary, the fact remains that it is not their residence but God’s. Therefore, we must not substitute the behaviour of a mortal for God. Even when a priest is still at his best, it is not close to God’s behaviour. And the priest acts uncannily; it does not change who God is.
In the New Testament, the Lord’s sanctuary is not a place built with brick and mortar but our body built by God. Therefore, showing reverence to the Lord’s sanctuary is synonymous with showing reverence to the bodies God gave us.

Dear God, I pray I will revere You in truth and in spirit. Help me, Lord Jesus. Amen.
