Leviticus 19:7 NLT
“If any of the sacrifice is eaten on the third day, it will be contaminated, and I will not accept it.”
Watch your desires
My educational journey was filled with setbacks, especially regarding passing the WAEC exam. It took me three attempts to finally pass, with the English language section being particularly challenging. As I prepared to retake the exam, I was determined to understand the grading rubric for the English language. Despite my efforts, I couldn’t get hold of the rubric, but I stumbled upon a concise book that explained the rules and guidelines in a way that resonated with me.
I strongly believe that God’s guidance is always readily available. We don’t have to search high and low for it; it’s always provided before we even realize we need it. In our scripture today, the people of Israel are reminded of specific actions to avoid for the Lord to accept peace offerings. It’s worth noting that peace offerings are made for various reasons, such as thanksgiving, fulfilling vows, or voluntary gestures. Regardless of the purpose, the Lord highlighted that the peace offering could be invalidated if the offeror chose to eat the sacrifice on the third day.
On the other hand, if the remaining portion of the peace offering is wholly burned without being consumed on the third day, the offeror would know that the sacrifice had been accepted. This placed the responsibility on the offeror to ensure that the right actions were taken to facilitate the acceptance of the offerings. The lesson here is that if God ever rejects the peace offering purchased by Jesus with His blood, it’s not because it has expired but because our thoughtless actions have invalidated it.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I pray that I will not willfully engage in anything that will invalidate my worship of You. I ask for this in Jesus’s name, Amen.
