Leviticus 19:25 NLT
“Finally, in the fifth year you may eat the fruit. If you follow this pattern, your harvest will increase. I am the Lord your God.”
God never forces anyone
In life, we are often told that God forces people to do His will, and the story of Jonah is used as an example. However, we must remember that God did not request that the people throw their belongings into the sea or that Jonah be thrown into the sea. If God had wanted to make Jonah’s life miserable, why did He send the fish to his rescue? Some people claim that when they refuse to yield to God’s command, He makes their lives miserable.
Yet, the insights from today’s referenced scripture refute both claims. First, God never forces anyone to do His will; second, He does not make any man’s life miserable. If anyone’s life is pathetic, check out the choices they made. In the parable of the prodigal son, it wasn’t the father who made his younger son’s life miserable; it was the son’s own doing. Remember, the father didn’t force him to stay.
As stated in today’s referenced scripture, God did not force the Israelites who planted fruit trees to wait until the fifth year before eating the harvest. Instead, He stated, “If you follow this pattern, your harvest will increase.” In other words, the decision was in their hands. Interestingly, the instruction did not require them to forgo food or anything. If there is a gap between the expected and the actual, God cannot be blamed; instead, we must examine whether we take obedience seriously or whether sacrifice is what we hold close to our hearts. Friends, are you obedient or someone who loves to engage in modern-day sacrifices? Always remember that only those who are willing and obedient are the ones that the Lord said shall eat the good of the land.
