Leviticus 19:24 NLT
“In the fourth year the entire crop must be consecrated to the Lord as a celebration of praise.”
A celebration of praise
Today’s passage challenges our traditional understanding of praise to the Lord. Often, we praise God relatively, that is after our prayers have been answered. However, this verse calls for praise to be proactively offered to the Lord before fulfilling our requests.
In this scripture, the Lord instructs that the produce from newly planted trees in the fourth year must be consecrated to Him. This act of consecration serves as a celebration of praise. It takes trust in the Lord to abide by such instruction. Trust that He will grant long life to eat out of one’s labour.
As followers of Christ, God wants us to trust in Him. He doesn’t seek us to offer up our earnings as a form of praise; instead, He desires that we live in holiness, just as He is holy. This involves guarding our hearts against vanity and refraining from deceit, which in turn will lead to the blessings of the Lord.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, please help me always celebrate You, even when I have yet to eat the good of the land. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
