Leviticus 19:19 NLT
“You must obey all my decrees. “Do not mate two different kinds of animals. Do not plant your field with two different kinds of seed. Do not wear clothing woven from two different kinds of thread.”
Non-negotiable
Today’s referenced scripture begins with a non-negotiable instruction. God instructed the people of Israel, natives and foreigners, to obey all His decrees. It is important to note that none of the decrees require them to come to the Tabernacle to present sacrifices at all times. Instead, all these decrees focus on making our lives and relationships with one another enjoyable. The responsibility to adhere to God’s decrees lies on all of us, not just a few or the majority.
Furthermore, God reiterated that what He didn’t do, we must not do. God warned the Israelites against engaging in unethical experiments, such as mating different animals, as this could disrupt the ecosystem. Concerning the second instruction, God emphasized the importance of understanding that not all plants are identical. Some are heavy feeders, while others are not. If seeds from different plants are planted in the same field, the former will consume all the nutrients, preventing the latter from developing correctly.
Lastly, the third instruction focused on not wearing clothing woven from two different kinds of thread. Although the essence of this instruction may be challenging to understand, some theologians have suggested that it was intended to set God’s people apart from pagan practices. Regardless, the message is clear: if we truly love God, we must obey Him.
Prayer
Dear God, help me understand that Your instructions are meant to make my life fulfilling. I desire not to ignore any of them. So, help me, Lord Jesus. Amen.
