Leviticus 19:18 NLT
“Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against a fellow Israelite, but love your neighbour as yourself. I am the Lord.”
No revenge, no grudges
In moments when our fellow believers wrong us, we find ourselves faced with a choice. While the world often encourages us to retaliate, as followers of Christ, our response should be guided by His teachings. In the scripture referenced today, we are reminded of the Lord’s instructions not to seek revenge or harbour grudges. This resonates deeply as holding onto grudges can be detrimental, trapping us in a cycle of emotional turmoil and spreading its impact on other aspects of our lives, robbing us of joy and peace.
For you and me, who have given up the old life and accepted the new in Christ, it is crucial to embody the teachings of our Lord and Saviour, aligning our attitudes and behaviours with His example. This involves consciously letting go of negativity and animosity that may take root in our hearts. The apostle John, in 1 John 4, underscores the significance of loving our fellow believers. He emphasizes that genuine love for God is manifested through our love for others. John goes as far as to highlight that if someone claims to love God but harbours hatred for a fellow believer, they are being dishonest. Essentially, love for one another is a cornerstone of the Christian faith, calling us to embody compassion, forgiveness, and understanding toward our brethren.
