Leviticus 19:4 NLT
“Do not put your trust in idols or make metal images of gods for yourselves. I am the Lord your God.”
God is sufficient for me
In the early 90s, a clash between students of two postsecondary institutions in Ibadan led to casualties on both sides. At the time, I was a student of one of the two institutions and had to go through unknown terrain to get transportation to my parents’ abode.
To ensure my safety while in school, my parent approached a pastor for prayer, but instead of prayer, I was given two small metal items, like tablets Moses received from God on Mount Sinai, to put in my pockets when I returned to school. By the way, the items weren’t free as they cost an arm and a leg. But, I didn’t use it for once because I reflected on the night event that claimed my coursemate’s life and realized that God saved me. Since God protected me that horrific night, it would be a fatal mistake to put my trust in any other thing except Him alone.
Friends, no other insurance is necessary since Jesus is our Lord and Saviour. Unfortunately, many Christians forget this once they reach their promised land. Instead, they follow people’s advice about supporting God’s blessing with the traditions of this world. It is important to remember that the Lord who brought us this far will not abandon us. As followers of Christ, let’s be contented with the finished work of salvation that Jesus did on the cross at Calvary.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me always put my faith in the finished work of Christ Jesus for my salvation and everything else. Amen.
