“Do not put your trust in idols or make metal images of gods for yourselves. I am the Lord your God.”

Do not put your trust in idols
Today’s referenced scripture contains two instructions. The first one says, “Do not put your trust in idols.” This instruction was necessary because the Lord wanted the people of Israel to restrain their desires for foreign ideas. He wanted them not to be tricked by the inhabitants of the promised land into serving their idols, let alone putting their trust in them. We should not be swayed by what we see others doing, especially when the Lord takes us to our promised land. Instead, we should remain steadfast in God. He has brought us so far, and we shouldn’t allow false teachings to enter our lives.

Did you know that some people who have been redeemed by Jesus unknowingly worship idols? Many people find themselves in this situation because they don’t know what an idol is. Therefore, we must put everything we do and believe to the test to see if it aligns with the finished work of Jesus on the cross at Calvary. Anything that Jesus did not do while on earth or did but never instructed us to do when we engage in them it is tantamount to placing ones trust in idols, and it doesn’t matter whether other Bible figures did them. In his letter, Peter said Jesus is our example, and we must follow His steps (1 Peter 2:21). Similarly, Luke told Theophilus that it is only in Christ that we live, move, and exist or have our being (Acts 17:28).

Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me to follow in the footsteps of my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, so that I will not be swayed into idolatry. Please help me, Lord Jesus. Amen.
