Leviticus 19:3 NLT
“Each of you must show great respect for your mother and father, and you must always observe my Sabbath days of rest. I am the Lord your God.”
Observe my Sabbath days of rest
Due to slavery in Egypt, the people of Israel became accustomed to working every day. However, upon God’s rescue, they were instructed to observe a day of rest each week, amounting to at least 52 days annually. The Lord made it clear that each day of rest was necessary. In other words, no one must excuse themselves from observing any. Hence, the mandate states that the Sabbath days of rest are required.
God expressly directed Moses to convey to the Israelites that this observance was obligatory for all, including themselves, Moses, and Aaron. The priest and non-priest, the haves and the have not, the poor and rich, the native and foreigners must all observe it. Everyone deserves to rest. It is your God-given blessing that must not be traded or sacrificed for anything. So, do you take time to rest? Do you observe a day of rest every week? If not, start making it a priority starting this week.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me observe Your days of rest and remember that working unrelentingly does not add to the blessings You have promised me. Please help me, Lord Jesus. Amen.
