Leviticus 18:8 NLT
“Do not have sexual relations with any of your father’s wives, for this would violate your father.”
Do not means do not
Near the dimly lit storage area of the church where I worship stands a weathered door with a stern inscription from the landlord admonishing visitors not to use it. This curious sight has captured my attention as I’ve observed others attempting to access the restricted area from the other side of the door and individuals from within surreptitiously making use of it. It’s a fascinating testament to human nature, as we often tend to disregard prohibitions, treating them as mere suggestions rather than binding rules.
However, the stakes are much higher when it comes to divine commands. Ignoring the warnings and decrees of the Lord of Hosts can have grave consequences. A stark illustration of this is the story of Absalom, who willfully defied God’s command by engaging in relations with his father’s concubines in a bid for power, ultimately leading to his downfall. The message is clear: we would be wise to steer clear of pursuits forbidden by God, adhering to His guidance for a fulfilling and purposeful life.
