Leviticus 18:30 NLT
“So obey my instructions, and do not defile yourselves by committing any of these detestable practices that were committed by the people who lived in the land before you. I am the Lord your God.”
You can change the narrative
Using the word “instruction” instead of “command” on question papers can be quite telling. “Instruction” implies a preferred way of doing something, allowing for some flexibility, while “command” suggests a strict requirement with no room for deviation.
This distinction is mirrored in the language used in today’s referenced scripture. The Lord’s directive to “obey my instructions” rather than “obey my command” signifies a granting of freedom to the people of Israel to choose their path. However, it also conveys that misuse of this freedom may lead to consequences, as the Lord reserves the right to intervene when necessary.
Furthermore, the scripture highlights that engaging in detestable acts doesn’t diminish God’s glory but reflects negatively on the individuals involved. It also encourages the understanding that we can influence the course of events. Even if a situation seems dire, we have the power to work towards improving it for God’s glory.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I pray that I will not misuse the liberty I have in You but use it to change the narrative in my domain for Your glory. Please guide me, Lord Jesus. Amen.
