Leviticus 18:15 NLT
“Do not have sexual relations with your daughter-in-law; she is your son’s wife, so you must not have sexual relations with her.”
With or without consequences, please comply
Humans often make decisions based on the reasons presented to them. People are more likely to take action when the reasons are clear and tangible. On the other hand, if no reasons are provided, people may be inclined to ignore any warnings. However, as followers of Christ, we are called to act according to Jesus’s commands even when we may not see immediate justifications for our actions.
In the previous verses, the Lord detailed the consequences of engaging in sexual relations with certain individuals. However, in the scripture referenced, the Lord commands us not to engage in such behaviour without explicitly stating the consequences. The saying ” a word is enough for the wise” suggests that we should be willing to heed God’s commands even without a full explanation of the consequences. Our decisions should not be solely informed by the severity of consequences, or lack thereof, but rather by our commitment to doing God’s will.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me to accept Your instruction at all times, even when there are no stated consequences of disobedience. This I ask in Jesus’s name, Amen.
