“Do not have sexual relations with your mother’s sister, for she is your mother’s close relative.”
Another off-limit relationship
The way I was brought up instilled in me a fear of certain practices. For example, in my family, it was believed that consuming the rear part of a chicken would lead to involvement in gossip. My mother upheld this belief, and I grew up thinking that everyone shared this belief until I witnessed someone disregarding it and eating the part happily. This experience made me realize that our beliefs and reasons are not always universally shared and can be shaped by our upbringing and experiences.
As for the reason in the referenced in the referenced scripture, the rationale behind it remains steadfast and unwavering. It admonishes against certain relationships, emphasizing the sacredness of familial ties. Friends, let us endeavour not to break family ties because God desires that we dwell in harmony.
Prayer
Dear heavenly Father, I ask for the strength to resist rationalizing anything that goes against Your will. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
