Leviticus 18:3 NLT
“So do not act like the people in Egypt, where you used to live, or like the people of Canaan, where I am taking you. You must not imitate their way of life.”
Be mindful of what you copy
Did you know that you are the architect of your life? You can decide to chart any course for yourself. Often, such decisions are influenced by what people close to us are doing or have done. However, it is essential to be cautious because not every behaviour is worth emulating.
In today’s cited scripture, the Lord warned the people of Israel about imitating the behaviour they had seen and were familiar with and the behaviour they were about to experience. The instruction was necessary because the people of Israel were about to enter the promised land that flows with milk and honey, where they would enter into the rest that God promised. However, God had to warn them so they would not take their eyes off Him.
People rarely challenge divine authority when life is relatively difficult; however, as soon as there is a horizon of rest, the reverse becomes the case. For instance, hanging out with all manners of friends and reviving long-forgotten habits tend to become the norm. Friends, in our walk with the Lord, we must not revert to old habits or associate with the wrong crowd when God answers our prayers.
