Leviticus 18:1 NLT
“Then the Lord said to Moses,”
The Lord desires to talk to you
Today’s scripture shows the deep and intimate relationship between the Lord and Moses. Their communication was marked by openness and freedom, without concern about who initiated contact last. Interestingly, the Lord began the conversation in the scripture referenced today, just as He did in Leviticus 16:1 and 17:1. It’s worth noting that Moses didn’t perform any physical act to attract the Lord’s attention. This raises the question, why did the Lord take an interest in Moses?
As Psalm 24 suggests, those who refrain from idol worship and deceit will receive the Lord’s blessings and enjoy a righteous relationship with God, their saviour. So, we need to examine our lives for any elements of idol worship, as maintaining such elements will hinder our relationship with the Lord.
Idol worship isn’t limited to bowing down to graven images; it can also manifest as clinging onto endeavours that lack eternal significance. When these pursuits become so captivating that we defend them when they clash with God’s word, they become idols in our lives. Anything that we find challenging to relinquish in favour of God’s word is an idol, and engaging in such behaviour prevents us from experiencing the kind of deep relationship with God that Moses had.
It’s crucial to understand that God desires a meaningful relationship with all of us, but we must fulfill the conditions He requires, which include maintaining clean hands and a pure heart.
