Leviticus 17:3-4 NLT
“If any native Israelite sacrifices a bull or a lamb or a goat anywhere inside or outside the camp instead of bringing it to the entrance of the Tabernacle to present it as an offering to the Lord, that person will be as guilty as a murderer. Such a person has shed blood and will be cut off from the community.”
Stay on your lane
There is no perfect congregation of people, which is why bylaws, mandates, and regulations are in place. Often, these measures are reactionary. However, God is always proactive. Although the people of Israel were chosen, God had to establish some ground rules because doing the right thing is not natural to anyone. For instance, when Moses went to receive the Ten Commandments, the people broke the rules.
The punishment for violating the temple sacrifices by the Lord might seem harsh, however the Lord put them in place so that no one would ever become too familiar with the activities of the priests. The Lord asserted that whoever does it would be as guilty as a murderer, which means such overstepping is like committing murder. When you critically look at it, it is murder because once the people take over, the priest might starve to death as they would have no way of getting their prescribed share.
Friends, the fact that a divine assignment looks like a no-brainer does not mean you and I should do it. Even though our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, could perform water baptism in others, He never did (John 4:2).
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I pray that I will not undertake any assignment without Your permission, no matter how simple. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
