Leviticus 16:31 NLT
“It will be a Sabbath day of complete rest for you, and you must deny yourselves. This is a permanent law for you.”
For you
In the scripture we studied today, the word ‘you’ appeared three times. It is crucial to understand that the ‘you’ in this context refers to the entire house of Israel. This means that the instructions in the passage were not limited to a select few, such as Aaron or Moses, but were intended for all of Israel, regardless of age, wealth, or social status. The instructions focused on the timing of the Day of Atonement, the specific actions that the people of Israel were required to perform on that day, and the subsequent expectations. The fact that the Lord scheduled the Day of Atonement on a sabbath carries symbolic significance, indicating God’s unwavering commitment to His word. In the instructions given to Moses for the people of Israel, the Lord allowed the people six days a week to work, and the directive regarding the Day of Atonement did not contradict this promise. This is a powerful reminder that God is faithful and true to His promises. Tomorrow, we will delve further into another intricacy of the instructions for the Day of Atonement.
