Leviticus 16:27 NLT
“The bull and the goat presented as sin offerings, whose blood Aaron takes into the Most Holy Place for the purification ceremony, will be carried outside the camp. The animals’ hides, internal organs, and dung are all to be burned.”
Outside the camp
In the Old Covenant, a comprehensive set of regulations was established to govern various activities within and outside the camp. One particular responsibility that had to be carried out outside the camp involved the meticulous disposal of the hides, internal organs, and dung of the bull and goat utilized for sin offerings. The Lord specifically instructed that this duty should be undertaken by an individual other than Aaron, reflecting God’s desire for the active participation of all in worship and emphasizing that no one person should bear the entire burden.
The requirement that this task be performed away from the presence of others could have given rise to selfishness or negligence. However, it is striking to note that there is no record in scripture of anyone carrying out this responsibility carelessly or haphazardly. This absence of negligence is a profound testament to the exceptional dedication and contentedness of those entrusted with this crucial responsibility. The message conveyed in this passage is clear: whether under observation or not, carrying out God’s instructions with unwavering dedication and reverence is of utmost importance.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, please help me to do Your will satisfactorily, whether or not I am being watched. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
