Leviticus 16:24 NLT
“Then he must bathe himself with water in a sacred place, put on his regular garments, and go out to sacrifice a burnt offering for himself and a burnt offering for the people. Through this process, he will purify himself and the people, making them right with the Lord.”
Put on his regular garments
In the referenced scripture, the Lord provided detailed instructions to Aaron regarding the rituals to be performed on the Day of Atonement. One of these instructions was for Aaron to bathe himself with water and then wear his regular priestly garments before carrying out the atonement rituals.
It’s worth noting that these regular garments were distinct from the linen garments that Aaron took off after exiting the Most Holy Place. The significance of not returning to the soiled linen garments after bathing in water carries a profound message for believers in their spiritual journey.
Just as Aaron did not return to the dirty clothes, we are likewise encouraged not to return to anything impure or unholy once we have surrendered it to Jesus. This principle aligns with the teachings of Jesus, who cautioned against putting new wine into old wineskins, as it would result in waste. Therefore, like Aaron, who donned his regular garments, we are reminded to consistently clothe ourselves with the garments of praise, holiness, and purity as we stand before the Lord.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I ask for the enablement not to use soiled “identity” to carry out Your tasks. I ask for these in Jesus’s name, Amen.
