Leviticus 16:24 NLT
“Then he must bathe himself with water in a sacred place, put on his regular garments, and go out to sacrifice a burnt offering for himself and a burnt offering for the people. Through this process, he will purify himself and the people, making them right with the Lord.”
Bathe himself with water
God is holy, and He knows that we can be holy too. Hence, in Leviticus 11, verses 44 and 45, God said, “Be holy, for I am holy.” We must be holy whether or not we are being watched. One way the Lord wanted Aaron to show his readiness for purity was by bathing himself with water each time he completed a portion of the sacrifice for the Day of Atonement. No one was to help Aaron remove the dirt or impurities from his body. In other words, Aaron must exhibit personal responsibility. Similarly, you and I know ourselves and, most importantly, the parts that need cleansing, and we, like Aaron, must be willing to remove them through the washing by water, which is the word of God.
Also, bathing with water was not Aaron’s last exercise. Yet Aaron did not see the instruction as something to postpone to the end. He ensured that the endeavour occurred when the Lord wanted it. Friend, following God’s instructions is imperative to enjoying walking with God. It is worth noting that God did not ask Aaron to bathe with water just anywhere. Instead, the Lord asked that it should be in a sacred place. Our endeavours in God’s vineyard must not be for show, so y(our) repentance must not be for people’s accolades, but let it be unto God alone.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, please help not to put Your instructions for deliberations. Instead, help me attend to them how and when You want them completed. I ask for these in Jesus’s name, Amen.
