Leviticus 16:22 NLT
“As the goat goes into the wilderness, it will carry all the people’s sins upon itself into a desolate land.”
All the people’s sins
The event described in today’s referenced scripture was part of the Day of Atonement, also known as Yom Kippur, a yearly festival that occurs six months after the Passover. There are specific actions that must be taken with the scapegoat. First, it must head to the wilderness. The wilderness symbolizes destruction or death. Friends, sins lead no one to green pasture; therefore, let’s remain conscious of our walk with the Lord.
Another essential point to consider is the word “goes,” which indicates that the sacrifice was an unending exercise in the old covenant. It was performed annually, and the priest confessed on behalf of the people of Israel. Interestingly, the confession was not for sins committed between the last Day of Atonement and the new Day of Atonement. The confession was for all the iniquity, transgression, and sins committed since they could remember. The atonement that Jesus’s blood perfected for us was and remains “at one met.”
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me that sins lead to You. Please help me to live my life to honour at every time. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
