Leviticus 16:6 NLT
”Aaron will present his own bull as a sin offering to purify himself and his family, making them right with the Lord.“
Jesus’s blood atones for all
In Exodus 28, verse 1, the Lord chose Aaron and his sons to minister to Him. However, their selection did not automatically make them holy. In fact, if that were the case, God would not have asked Aaron to purify himself before approaching the Tabernacle. This fact illustrates that one’s calling does not make Him righteous before God.
It is worth noting that Aaron’s duty in the Lord’s presence was not for his own benefit but for the children of Israel. This responsibility meant that it was inappropriate for him to use his privilege to serve his own purposes. Instead, he had to be selfless at all times. However, given the human nature of self-interest, how many people can do that day in and day out? It is no wonder God sent Jesus to come as the High Priest for you and me.
Furthermore, Aaron cannot just perform his obligation without presenting a bull as a sin offering for himself and his family. This offering was necessary because even the High Priest had to admit his own sins before God to seek forgiveness. In addition, the two goats that the community of Israel presented as a sin offering did not cover Aaron and his family’s sins, proving the inadequacy of the Old Testament.
In conclusion, all believers have a unique privilege in Jesus because the same blood of Jesus shed on the cross at Calvary atones for everyone’s sins and makes us right with God. God’s grace and mercy are available to all, regardless of our status or position. May we always remember that and strive to be more like Jesus every day.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I am very grateful for Jesus’s finished work of salvation on the cross at Calvary because it does not just atone for my sins and that of my household, but also for everyone’s sins. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen
