Leviticus 16:2 NLT
”The Lord said to Moses, “Warn your brother, Aaron, not to enter the Most Holy Place behind the inner curtain whenever he chooses; if he does, he will die. For the Ark’s cover—the place of atonement—is there, and I myself am present in the cloud above the atonement cover.“
Beware of familiarity
The story of Aaron and Moses in the Tabernacle is intriguing. When the Lord commanded Moses to warn Aaron about his behaviour in the Tabernacle, Aaron was present with Moses. It is worth noting that God spoke to Aaron through Moses, and one might wonder why. It is important to understand that Moses was the set man for the assignment, and God did not want to disrupt the chain of command. As a leader, Moses understood the importance of conveying God’s message to his fellow leaders.
Another question is why God did not caution Moses against entering the Most High Place behind the inner curtain. One reason is that God trusted Moses not to exceed his bounds. Moses was never instructed to care for the Tabernacle; Aaron and his sons were tasked by God to perform sacrifices in the Tabernacle and burn incense to the Lord.
It is essential to note that the warning was not about non-issue but focused on God’s holiness. The Lord reminded Aaron that he must not become too familiar with His presence because approaching Him without caution carries significant consequences. The warning reminded Aaron and his sons to approach the Lord with reverence and respect.
In conclusion, the story of Aaron and Moses in the Tabernacle teaches us several lessons. As leaders, we must convey God’s message to our fellow leaders. We must trust those who are tasked with specific assignments and respect their roles. Most importantly, we must approach God with reverence and respect, for He is holy and deserving our utmost devotion.
