Leviticus 15:27 NLT
”If any of you touch these things, you will be ceremonially unclean. You must wash your clothes and bathe yourself in water, and you will remain unclean until evening.“
Fairness and equity
In many cultures and societies, it is often stated that what is good for one person should also be good for another. However, this may not always be the case, as many people live in situations where inequality is the norm. It’s important to remember, however, that God does not show favouritism. Anyone who violates His command receives the same consequence as others.
In the referenced scripture, the Lord made it clear that anyone who touches the bed of a woman with an unusual blood flow would be considered ceremonially unclean. This means that the person would be unable to participate in certain religious activities until they had been cleansed. It’s noteworthy that this law applies to everyone, regardless of their social status or gender. The Lord made no exceptions for priests, non-priests, rich, poor, young, old, men, or women.
Furthermore, “if” suggests that the Lord did not expect anyone to do this purposefully. It’s important to note that this law was not meant to punish anyone but rather to protect the community from the potential spread of disease. By following this law, people could avoid contracting any illnesses that may have been transmitted through contact with bodily fluids.
Ultimately, this scripture serves as a reminder that we should all strive to follow God’s instructions and treat everyone fairly and equally, regardless of their social status or gender.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me to be fair and equitable like You in all my endeavours and interactions with others. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
