Leviticus 15:18 NLT
”After a man and a woman have sexual intercourse, they must each bathe in water, and they will remain unclean until the next evening.“
Only in marital relationships
The referenced scripture affirms that sexual relationships are ordained and approved by God, but only if they occur under specific conditions. Firstly, the act must be between a man and a woman, and it is only permissible if the man is the woman’s husband. If these conditions are met, then the act is not considered sinful. If it were, the purification exercise would have required animals or birds whose blood would be shed to atone for the error. As stated in the scripture, the two things necessary for the man and woman to return to the Tabernacle were to bathe in water and wait until the evening sacrifice, which occurs at 3 pm.
Now, the question arises – since God commanded man to be fruitful and multiply, why did He say that an intimate relationship between a man and a woman in a married condition makes them ceremonially unclean, given that it is the only means of procreation? The answer lies in the fact that the instruction is necessary to ensure that man reveres God and follows His teachings. If there were no such rules, then strange doctrines could easily sweep in, suggesting that it is okay for such acts to happen inside the Tabernacle, which would be inappropriate.
Thus, the rules regarding sexual relationships are in place to ensure the Tabernacle’s sanctity and that man follows God’s teachings. Such acts are only considered permissible under specific conditions, and any violation of these rules would require a purification exercise to atone for the error.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I pray that I will never misuse the freedom granted me through Christ’s finished work on the cross at Calvary. Amen, in Jesus’s name.
