Leviticus 15:7 NLT
”If you touch the man with the discharge, you must wash your clothes and bathe yourself in water, and you will remain unclean until evening.“
If you…
In the scriptures, various statements begin with “if you.” These statements are interesting because they convey a sense of personal responsibility for our lives. For instance, the cited passage mentions that if you touch a man declared ceremonially unclean, you will also become ceremonially unclean. This implies that disobeying divine instruction has consequences, and those who choose to do so must bear the consequences of their actions.
The Lord wants us to understand that we are in charge of our bodies and must learn to subject them to avoid being excommunicated from His presence. It’s worth noting that even a single action can cause a rift between us and God, which is evident in the scripture. The Lord did not say that uncleanliness would begin after a certain number of touches; instead, it starts instantaneously. This highlights the importance of being cautious about our actions since even the smallest actions can have significant consequences.
Therefore, we must be careful about what we do with our bodies. As Jesus said, we must be mindful of how we use each part of our bodies to avoid eternal damnation (Matthew 5:29-32). This means that we should not only be careful about our physical actions but also our thoughts and intentions since they can eventually lead to physical actions. As such, we must be mindful of our actions, thoughts, and intentions to avoid falling out of God’s grace.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me avoid engaging in activities that will create a wedge between You and me. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
