Leviticus 14:18 NLT
”The priest will apply the oil remaining in his hand to the head of the person being purified. Through this process, the priest will purify the person before the Lord.“
Not for the priest
As followers of Christ, we need to have God’s word deeply rooted in our hearts to exhibit Godly ideals genuinely. One of the most significant ideals we are called to show is love, demonstrated through our actions towards others. We are also called to conduct our business affairs with our neighbours in mind, treating them fairly.
As stated in the referenced scripture, God instructed the priest to anoint the head of the person being purified with oil from his hand but not to use it for himself, other priests, or his family and friends. This reminded the priests to be selfless in their service, not focusing on their own needs but on those they were serving.
As believers in Christ Jesus, we are called to follow His example of selflessness and service to others. Our focus should not be on personal gain or material possessions but on living a godly life with contentment, as stated in 1 Timothy 6:6.
Therefore, as followers of Christ, let us honour the Lord by fulfilling our calling and serving others with selflessness. Let us not be self-centred in our service but instead put the needs of others first and live a pleasing life to God.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I ask for the enablement not to covet anything that does not belong to me. Instead, help me adore and appreciate what You have given me. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
