Leviticus 14:15 NLT
”Then the priest will pour some of the olive oil into the palm of his own left hand.“
The palm of his own left hand
Some time ago, I visited a store and was surprised to see old household appliances like cassette players on display for sale. Although I found them fascinating, I had no intention of purchasing them because their time had passed. Nowadays, I don’t need a cassette player or worry about cleaning its head so that the music will sound good because everything has been digitized.
The connection is that there is nothing to desire in the law. It has no value in the new dispensation. Today’s referenced scripture indicates that the priest must pour some of the olive oil on his palm. The lesson here is about what the priest must not do. As the scripture states, the priest must avoid pouring the item on his right palm and use his left palm instead.
Now, imagine if this instruction were revived. There would be confusion in places where using the left hand to offer something to another person is considered wrong. As followers of Christ, we don’t have to worry about making mistakes while worshiping God or experiencing social conflict with our neighbours because Jesus’ death, resurrection, and ascension have saved us from such trauma. Therefore, we should embrace His finished work of salvation.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the New Testament because it has freed me from every form of ambiguity that the Old Testament contained. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
