Leviticus 14:12 NLT
”The priest will take one of the male lambs and the olive oil and present them as a guilt offering, lifting them up as a special offering before the Lord.“
We are all connected
In the movie “The Hill,” Rickey, the son of a travelling pastor, was practicing his baseball moves when he accidentally hit a rock with his bat. The rock landed on the windshield of a van parked on someone else’s property, causing a chip on it. Rickey’s siblings who witnessed the incident wanted to run away, but Rickey remembered his father’s teachings about taking responsibility for one’s actions. He realized he was guilty and didn’t hesitate to approach the vehicle’s owner to accept his mistake.
According to the law, the Scripture states that the person being purified must admit their fault, even though no one intentionally makes themselves unclean with a skin disease. In this sense, the guilt offering was needed to atone for any mistake that affected others. When the person being purified was in isolation, their neighbours, family members, and business associates could have suffered some trauma, and the guilt offering was to restitute for the heartache caused by their emotional or physical absence. This reminds us that we are all connected, and our actions can impact others. We should strive to live our lives in a way that positively impacts the lives of those around us.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I know I am to live in a way that brings glory to You. Please help me, Lord, never to fail to do so. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
