Leviticus 14:7 NLT
”The priest will then sprinkle the blood of the dead bird seven times on the person being purified of the skin disease. When the priest has purified the person, he will release the live bird in the open field to fly away.“
Purify the person
Like any scripture, the referenced scripture reveals the depth of God’s mercy and compassion toward His people. It is instructive to note that aside from bringing the sacrificial items, the healed person did not have to do anything to receive the blessing. All they had to do was to be present while the priest performed the sacrifice, first by sprinkling the blood on the healed person seven times, symbolizing rest.
The second message in this scripture is equally powerful. The priest releases a live bird, signifying freedom. The bird’s release was not in an enclosure but in an open field, indicating that the blessings of God add no sorrow. The release of the bird was a symbol of the healed person being set free from their afflictions. It also foreshadowed what Jesus Christ, the Son of God, would do for us. Jesus came to set us free from sin and death, and whoever the Son sets free is free indeed.
Another message centres on the endeavour of the priest. The Lord instructed that he could purify, i.e., to make a person clean. Friend, as a follower of Christ, you are the salt of the world, which means you are to add value to the lives of everyone that comes your way. Remember to do so at all times!
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for my freedom through Jesus Christ because I know I am free indeed.
