Leviticus 13:51 NLT
”On the seventh day the priest must inspect it again. If the contaminated area has spread, the clothing or fabric or leather is clearly contaminated by a serious mildew and is ceremonially unclean.“
Patience and obedience
The Scripture serves many purposes, including providing instructions for us to follow (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Today’s Scripture teaches us the importance of patience in all situations. The passage discusses a scenario where a fabric seems to have mildew. However, the Lord instructs the priest to wait seven days to determine if the situation is mildew. The Lord does not ask the priest to bring this issue to Him but instead gives a standing instruction to follow. The lesson here is that patience is a virtue we all need to practice daily.
Similarly, Lord Jesus has given us standing instructions on all matters. For example, we don’t need to ask the Lord for guidance on loving our neighbours as ourselves. This is because the Lord has already given us a clear instruction on this matter. The instruction given to the priest was not assignable to another person and had to be done at the time specified by the Lord.
Regardless of the fabric’s cost or the owner’s identity, if the mildew has spread, the item is contaminated. The lesson is that we should not ignore the signs of contamination or decay in our lives. Instead, we should promptly address the situation and prevent further harm.
In conclusion, the lesson from this passage is that it’s not enough to say that we love God; we must show it by doing things the way He wants them done and when He wants them to be done. Patience, obedience, and prompt action are all critical components of a life that is pleasing to God.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I want to exhibit patience and obedience to Your instructions. Please help me to not just talk about them but exhibit them for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
