Leviticus 13:29-30 NLT
”If anyone, either a man or woman, has a sore on the head or chin, the priest must examine it. If he finds it is more than skin-deep and has fine yellow hair on it, the priest must pronounce the person ceremonially unclean. It is a scabby sore of the head or chin.“
If anyone, either a man or woman
As we grow up, many dream of becoming lawyers, doctors, nurses, teachers, and engineers. Rarely do we hear someone say that they aspire to become a priest. One of the reasons for this could be that the profession offers little financial reward, at least in comparison to other professions. However, this perception seems to be changing in some parts of the world, where more and more people now aspire to become priests.
Despite this growing interest, many people do not fully understand the position. Today’s referenced Scripture provides a glimpse into what being a priest means. The Scripture reveals that in the Old Testament, being a priest was a lifelong service to God and humanity. Priests were not just responsible for offering sacrifices to God but also for serving the needs of the people.
Priests were not allowed to be irritated or annoyed by people’s physical health challenges. They could not choose who to attend to at any given time, and they could not perform their duties unless they “die daily.” This means priests had to be willing to put the needs of others before their own, even if those people did not love them or their family members.
Priests were expected to be available to help both men and women, regardless of their economic status. They were also expected to be compassionate, patient, and kind. Being a priest was not just a job or a profession but a calling that required a deep commitment to God and serving others.
In conclusion, while the profession of the priesthood may not be as lucrative as others, it requires a level of selflessness and devotion that is truly admirable. Those who aspire to become priests must be willing to make sacrifices and put the needs of others before their own. It is a noble calling that should be respected and appreciated by all.
