Leviticus 13:16-17 NLT
”However, if the open sores heal and turn white like the rest of the skin, the person must return to the priest for another examination. If the affected areas have indeed turned white, the priest will then pronounce the person ceremonially clean by declaring, ‘You are clean!’“
You are clean
In the Old Testament, being ceremonially unclean was not a death sentence. The reason is that the affected person could regain their status if the situation that caused their unclean status changed for good. However, there were specific conditions for regaining the status. For instance, if someone had an open sore, it had to heal, and the affected area had to turn white like the rest of the skin. The healing process was a sign of a change in their condition, and once it was complete, they were considered clean again.
Similarly, in the Bible, when a sinner repents, there is joy in heaven, and the person’s status changes to that of a saint. However, unlike in the Old Testament, the title of becoming a saint cannot be conferred by mortals but rather by God. Being a saint means that one has been set apart for a holy purpose, and it is a title that can only be given by God.
Furthermore, the scripture in Isaiah 62 verse 1 tells us we will be given a new name from the Lord. In ancient times, a name was more than just a label. It often reflected the person’s character, personality, or even destiny. Therefore, receiving a new name from the Lord signifies a significant change in one’s life. It indicates that the person has been transformed and they have a new identity in God.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please let the root of any open sore in my life permanently dry up. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
