Leviticus 13:15 NLT
”The priest must make this pronouncement as soon as he sees an open sore, since open sores indicate the presence of a skin disease.“
You have the right to know
In today’s referenced Scripture, the Lord instructed the priest not to waste time announcing uncleanliness whenever an open sore was detected in any affected person. This was an essential instruction because it helped to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
Interestingly, during the COVID-19 pandemic, public health agencies in the West utilized the same principle. This approach helped to control the spread of the virus and save lives.
However, such announcements must be based on accurate and reliable information. The Lord desires that we make objective pronouncements based on meticulous procedures, not haphazard procedures. This is particularly important when dealing with issues significantly affecting people.
Another takeaway is that we should be open to calling a spade a spade. If something needs to be fixed, we should be quick to speak out and take action. The priest did not gossip about uncleanliness but brought it to the public’s attention.
Similarly, when dealing with issues that can negatively impact our spiritual well-being, we should not keep them under lock and key or gossip about them. Anyone affected needs to know so that appropriate actions can be taken to correct the anomaly. Friends, it is essential to note that priests’ understanding was not based on revelation but on pragmatism.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please call me out wherever and whenever I do not meet Your standard. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
