Leviticus 13:12-13 NLT
”Now suppose the disease has spread all over the person’s skin, covering the body from head to foot. When the priest examines the infected person and finds that the disease covers the entire body, he will pronounce the person ceremonially clean. Since the skin has turned completely white, the person is clean.“
How come?
I distinctly remember having a conversation with a close friend about parenting styles. We discussed how parents disciplined their children, and then my friend shared a unique approach his parents had taken. He mentioned that his parents did not punish him for breaking plates, which initially surprised me as someone from a different cultural background.
However, my friend explained that his parents had a specific rule when it came to discipline. They had a policy that he would not be punished as long as he confessed if he accidentally broke any plate or anything in the household. He said it pays to come clean.
What struck me was that this approach has its roots in the scripture. In the Old Testament, for instance, a priest would declare a person ceremonially unclean if they had a white swelling on their skin, hair on the affected area, and an open sore. However, if the disease spread all over the person’s skin, covering their entire body, the person would be declared ceremonially clean. This seems counterintuitive, but the underlying lesson is clear.
The lesson is that while keeping our mistakes and shortcomings hidden may be tempting, it’s better to come clean and seek forgiveness. If we confess our sins, mercy abounds (Proverbs 28:13). However, if we do otherwise, the secret will eventually be exposed, and we will have to face the consequences.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I come clean about all my transgressions. I do not hide any from You. Please forgive me and make me whole. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
