Leviticus 12:3 NLT
“On the eighth day the boy’s foreskin must be circumcised.”
‭‭
The circumcision that matters
The covenant between God and Abraham is significant in the history of the Israelites. One of the critical aspects of this covenant was the circumcision of the foreskin. Abraham, a faithful servant of God, must have passed down this instruction to his descendants. However, the extended stay of the people of Israel in Egypt probably made them forget the instructions.

Despite the absence of the patriarchs who had received the original instruction, the God of Abraham, Yahweh, is eternal and unchanging. His Word is also unchanging, so He reiterated the instruction to the Israelites in the wilderness so that they can partake in His blessings. God had informed Abraham that the instruction had no expiration date and applied to all generations (Genesis 17:9-14).

Under the new covenant that was purchased through the blood of Christ, circumcision is still essential. However, the focus is not on the physical act of circumcision of the foreskin but instead on the circumcision of the heart. In other words, the true circumcision that matters under the new covenant is the inward transformation of the heart by faith in Christ.

Therefore, it is essential to ask ourselves whether our hearts are circumcised. Have we experienced the inward transformation that comes through faith in Christ? This is the circumcision that matters under the new covenant and not the circumcision of the flesh.

Prayer
Dear God, please help circumcise my heart so that I can continually partake in the blessings You give and that I may not be cut off from Your presence. In Jesus’s name, amen.
