“If an animal you are permitted to eat dies and you touch its carcass, you will be defiled until evening.”
Don’t touch any carcass
Maintaining clean hands is a common practice among medical practitioners in the Western world. They avoid touching any patient with their bare hands to prevent the spread of any potential infection or disease from the patient to other people or things they may come in contact with.
Interestingly, the Lord advised this precaution even before medical practitioners knew it. The Lord warned the people of Israel against careless use of their hands and stated that touching the dead body of any animal, even if it is considered clean, makes one defiled.
The Lord wanted the people of Israel always to have clean hands. The requirement holds true for us as well but in a different dimension. For us, it means to live a holy life not just on the outside but also on the inside.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I know I am responsible for keeping my hands clean. Please help me to maintain clean hands so I will be able to climb Your Hill. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
