Leviticus 11:34 NLT
“If the water from such a container spills on any food, the food will be defiled. And any beverage in such a container will be defiled.”
Vessel unto what?
According to the scripture, different vessels are found in a house – some are meant for honour, while others are not. The vessels of honour are used for noble purposes, while the vessels of dishonour are used for everyday purposes. It’s worth noting that dishonourable vessels are usually found within the house. This means that, even in a community of believers, some are not living according to godly standards.
The defiled container mentioned in the scripture exemplifies an impure vessel. This figure of speech illustrates that just being a part of a denomination or a religious community does not guarantee one is in Christ. It is possible to be in believers’ company and still live in sin. Therefore, we must ask ourselves what kind of vessels we are. Are we living according to godly standards? Are we living a life that honours God?
No matter how large, fancy, or expensive a clay pot may be, if it’s contaminated, any spillage from it will affect everything and anything in its surroundings. This is why it’s essential to be vessels of honour. As followers of Christ, let’s strive to be vessels of honour by ensuring that only Christ dwells within us. Let’s live our lives in a way that honours God so that we can be used for noble purposes.
Prayer
Dear God, I pray that my interactions with others will not compromise their relationship with You. In Jesus’s name, amen.
