Leviticus 11:5 NLT
“The hyrax chews the cud but does not have split hooves, so it is unclean.”
Not without a purpose
In the story of Moses and the ten plagues in Egypt, each plague held symbolic meaning. All were directed at the ten gods ancient Egyptians worshipped and held in high esteem. Although the instructions given to the people of Israel regarding the consumption of certain animal meats had nothing to do with the worship of idols, they had insights for living for them and, by extension, for you and me.
In the referenced Scripture, the Lord stated that hyrax meat should not be eaten as it only fulfills one of the two conditions – chews the cud but does not have split hooves. In other words, it only meets 50 percent of the conditions. While achieving 50 percent in an assessment might be enough to pass, it is not the case with God. He desires 100 percent from us and knows we can achieve it.
So, what is the significance of these two conditions for us? Chewing cud can be seen as the ability to think things through before making a decision. However, unless we allow God to guide our thought process, our choices may not align with His will. This is where having split hooves becomes essential. A divided hoof allows for permeation, whereas a joined hoof does not. Friends, we must not be rigid in our pursuits but always allow God to guide and moderate our actions.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I give You access to my life and thought process. Please use them for Your glory, in Jesus’s name. Amen.
