Leviticus 11:31 NLT
“All these small animals are unclean for you. If any of you touch the dead body of such an animal, you will be defiled until evening.”
‭‭
No small sin
Instructions are a crucial part of assessments, often located on the first page of the question paper. Typically, instructions for a particular section of an assessment are not repeated on any other page, implying that they are presented only once.

Interestingly, God repeated the instruction about an endeavour twice. First, in Leviticus 11:29, God declared mole rats, rats, large lizards, geckos, monitor lizards, common lizards, sand lizards, and chameleons were unclean, and now, in today’s referenced Scripture, the same consequence is reiterated. The question is, why did God need to repeat the instruction and the consequence of violating it?

It is reasonable to assume that God wanted the people of Israel to understand that the smallness of these animals did not make their meat clean for consumption. It is essential to note that sin, no matter how insignificant it may seem, defiles the body and creates a gap between man and God. There is no such thing as a small or big sin; every transgression is a sin before God.

Finally, it is interesting to note that God used the word “if” instead of “when” in the concluding part of the referenced Scripture, indicating that the event is avoidable through personal responsibility. As human beings, we have a responsibility to follow divine instructions, but we cannot do so without the help of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, we must depend on the Holy Spirit in all our endeavours to obey divine instructions.

Prayer
Dear God, I pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit so that I may not succumb to destructive personal desires. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
