Leviticus 11:26 NLT
“Any animal that has split hooves that are not evenly divided or that does not chew the cud is unclean for you. If you touch the carcass of such an animal, you will be defiled.”
Guard your curiosity
Today’s referenced scripture holds two valuable lessons from which we can all learn. First, it highlights the unwavering nature of God’s word. God does not say anything that He does not mean or mean anything that He does not say. This is why He reiterated to the people of Israel that consuming the meat of animals with unevenly divided hooves or those that do not chew cud would make them unclean. God’s repetition of this instruction indicated that He was not joking about the consequences of disobeying His command.
Second, God wanted to guide the Israelites’ curiosity in a positive direction. He understood that unguided curiosity could lead to disastrous outcomes. Thus, He instructed them not to eat the meat of these unclean animals. For what purpose would anyone want to inspect the carcass of an unclean animal other than curiosity? As humans, we all have a natural curiosity, and we must channel that curiosity toward knowing more about God, just like Paul did (Philippians 3:10).
It is crucial to note that this passage is not just about obeying God’s commands. It’s also about glorifying God in everything we do. We should not waste our time seeking things that do not align with God’s will. Instead, we should focus on doing the kingdom’s work (Proverbs 8:35). We must remember that God is not just a loving God but also a just God. Therefore, we are responsible for holding His word in high esteem and obeying His commands to the best of our ability. By doing this, we will fulfill our purpose on earth and bring glory to God.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I pray that I will not expend my energy looking for anything that will separate me from You. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
