Leviticus 11:24 NLT
“The following creatures will make you ceremonially unclean. If any of you touch their carcasses, you will be defiled until evening.”
Cherish your relationship with God
Today’s scripture reminds us that every act of disobedience has a consequence. Specifically, in the case of the people of Israel, God instructed that anyone who comes into contact with the carcasses of unclean land or marine animals, birds, or insects will become ceremonially unclean.
It’s crucial to note that this uncleanliness only affects the individual who comes into contact with the unclean thing and not other members of their household. However, being ceremonially unclean causes temporary separation from God until the evening, when a sacrifice must be made to purify oneself.
Even though the duration of being unclean lasts only until the evening sacrifice, which takes place at 3 p.m., it is still a significant amount of time to be separated from God. This serves as a reminder to be mindful of our actions and avoid anything that could come between us and our relationship with God. We must take being separated from God, even temporarily, very seriously.
If you genuinely cherish your relationship with God, you will do everything possible to avoid anything that could contaminate you and cause separation from Him. Hence, let’s be mindful of our actions and avoid anything that could come between us and our relationship with God (1 Peter 1:15).
Prayer
