Leviticus 11:10 NLT
“But you must never eat animals from the sea or from rivers that do not have both fins and scales. They are detestable to you. This applies both to little creatures that live in shallow water and to all creatures that live in deep water.”

Trust and obey
Words play a crucial role in how we address matters. Certain words connote different meanings; for instance, “may” connotes possibility, whereas “must” indicates certainty. In today’s referenced scripture, the Lord was clear about how the people of Israel should view marine animals without scales and fins, particularly in terms of food. The Lord said they must not consider such marine animals as food. But why did the Lord give this instruction? As always, the Lord gave the instruction for the best interest of the people of Israel (Psalm 19:7-11).

It might interest you to note that science has shown that marine animals without scales or fins are typically bottom-feeding animals and, therefore, retain bacteria and parasites, making them unsafe for human consumption. If God did not have the interest of the people of Israel at heart, He might have kept silent. The fact that He asked them not to consider marine animals with scales or fins symbolized love.

Although no one can see through the ocean or decipher the food these marine animals feed on and why they are unsafe for human consumption, the Lord knew before science revealed it. Therefore, friends, no matter how unbelievable God’s instructions may seem, they are always in our best interest. So, let’s trust and obey Him at all times.

Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I am in awe of Your incomparable love that surpasses all understanding. I pray that You guide me to appreciate and obey Your divine instructions for my life, in every aspect of it. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
