Leviticus 10:6 NLT
“Then Moses said to Aaron and his sons Eleazar and Ithamar, “Do not show grief by leaving your hair uncombed or by tearing your clothes. If you do, you will die, and the Lord’s anger will strike the whole community of Israel. However, the rest of the Israelites, your relatives, may mourn because of the Lord’s fiery destruction of Nadab and Abihu.”
‭‭
If you do
Following Nadab and Abihu’s tragic disobedience and subsequent death, Aaron and his two surviving sons were understandably overwhelmed with grief. However, Moses, in his wisdom and love for his fellow Israelites, advised them against certain mourning practices, such as dishevelled appearance and tearing clothing. This counsel was not intended to forbid Aaron and his sons from mourning but rather to prevent them from inadvertently incurring God’s wrath. By adhering to Moses’s guidance, they showed their respect and obedience to God and their love for the community. Moses also demonstrated his love by explaining the consequences of mourning in a specific manner, warning that if they allowed themselves to look unkempt, they would die, and the entire Israelite nation would be at risk of God’s anger. Ultimately, Aaron’s compliance with Moses’s instruction exemplified his devotion to both the people and, most importantly, to God. We need to remember, even amid great sorrow, to not allow bitterness towards others or the Creator of the universe to take hold.

Prayer
Dear God, please help me never become bitter toward my neighbour or You whenever I experience unpalatable life events. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
