Leviticus 10:19 NLT
“Then Aaron answered Moses, “Today my sons presented both their sin offering and their burnt offering to the Lord. And yet this tragedy has happened to me. If I had eaten the people’s sin offering on such a tragic day as this, would the Lord have been pleased?””
‭‭
Then Aaron answered Moses
Leviticus 10, verses 16 to 18, recount a conversation between Moses and two of Aaron’s sons, Eleazar and Ithamar. Moses asked them why they had not eaten the goat of the sin offering, but they remained silent. Their silence reflected the excellent upbringing they received from their father, Aaron. He had instilled in them the importance of showing respect to others, even in difficult situations.

As parents, we can learn from Aaron’s example and strive to instill positive values in our children. The Apostle Paul also emphasized the importance of responding appropriately to others in Colossians 4:6. This involves yielding the floor to the right person to respond, just as Aaron’s sons did when they allowed their father to speak without interrupting him.

It is noteworthy that Moses did not direct his question to Aaron, even though he was present. This was out of respect for his elder brother and a recognition of his position as the high priest. Leviticus 19:32 reinforces that respect should be shown to everyone, regardless of status or title.

In summary, the story of Aaron’s sons is a powerful reminder of the importance of showing respect to others. It is a lesson that we can all learn from and apply in our own lives, whether we are parents, children, or simply members of a community.

Prayer
Dear God, please help me to remain respectful even in challenging circumstances, and may I respond to every inquiry with grace. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
