Leviticus 9:11 NLT
The meat and the hide, however, he burned outside the camp.

The meat and the hide
It is important to remember that humans are fragile and susceptible to temptation. Therefore, it is necessary to be cautious and vigilant in all aspects of life, as the enemy always seeks to overpower us. One way the enemy can succeed is by tempting us with a lack of contentment. Those who work and walk with God must take contentment seriously.

In scripture, Aaron burned the meat, hide, and dung outside the camp. If Aaron had not been content, he may have left the meat and hide and burned only the dung as it was considered a waste. Aaron could have justified not burning the meat and hide, claiming the Israelites could benefit from it. After all, scripture did not say that burning them was unto the Lord or a sweet-smelling savour.

Despite this, Aaron did not rationalize the instruction. He had seen Moses do the same thing in Leviticus 8:17 and followed Moses’ footsteps. This serves as a reminder that we must strive to be worthy ambassadors of our calling and avoid covetousness or the “lust of the eyes,” as John the Apostle called it. Therefore, we must constantly work towards building contentment and gratitude in our lives, recognizing that it is a crucial component of a fruitful and fulfilling life in the Lord Jesus.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, I come to You with a humble heart, asking for Your help in staying focused and not being swayed by the fleeting pleasures of this world. Please guide me in keeping my eyes fixed on You and Your eternal promises. I pray this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
