Leviticus 7:3-5 NLT
“The priest will then offer all its fat on the altar, including the fat of the broad tail, the fat around the internal organs, the two kidneys and the fat around them near the loins, and the long lobe of the liver. These are to be removed with the kidneys, and the priests will burn them on the altar as a special gift presented to the Lord. This is the guilt offering.”
The priest’s responsibility
According to the law, God instructed the priests to perform guilt sacrifices for anyone who offered them. As such, they could deny anyone based on their personal relationships. Even if an offeror had a bad relationship with the priest or their family, the priest was expected to rise above any pettiness and offer the sacrifice to God. It wasn’t that priests had no emotion or were forbidden from expressing it; they were not allowed to let their anger lead them to sin. As the priests under the law stood in the gap for all, without holding grudges, we too, as redeemed individuals and royal priests through the blood of the Lamb, must not hold grudges if we wish to worship God genuinely.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me, Lord, not to allow any pettiness to constrict my devotion to You, the Only Wise God. In Jesus’s name, amen.
