Leviticus 4:24 NLT
“He must lay his hand on the goat’s head and slaughter it at the place where burnt offerings are slaughtered before the Lord. This is an offering for his sin.”
Godly lifestyle
God does not show favouritism. Just as He required the priest to put his hand on the sacrificial animal, so did He demand that an elder caught in the web of ignorant sin. If laying hands on the animal was bad or diminished one’s public image, God required that an elder must not excuse himself. Atonement for sin debases one’s public image, hence the reason Jesus went through a series of embarrassments to right our wrongs. Today’s referenced scripture noted that an elder atoning for ignorant sin could not cherry-pick the location for the slaughtering of the sacrificial animal; it has to be done in the same place as others. We can not know how much it costs our Lord and Saviour to bear our shame and embarrassment. Therefore, let us not take His finished work of salvation on the cross at Calvary for granted.

Eternal Rock of Ages, help me not to live recklessly but to be steadfast in You. In Jesus’s name, amen.
