Leviticus 1:17 NLT
“Then, grasping the bird by its wings, the priest will tear the bird open, but without tearing it apart. Then he will burn it as a burnt offering on the wood burning on the altar. It is a special gift, a pleasing aroma to the Lord.”
A pleasing aroma to the Lord
Regardless of the economic status of the offeror of a burnt offering, the exercise was acceptable by the Lord, provided the priest followed the prescribed procedures. In other words, God conferred no preferential treatment on any offeror. Another insight for living centers on how God considers the burnt offering. Today’s referenced scripture revealed that the burning of the bird is a special gift which emits a pleasing aroma to the Lord. With the above statement, the Lord revealed that the burnt offerings were for Him. The scent emitted through the burning of the bird might not appeal to the priest, but it did not matter. To God, the aroma was a pleasing one. The implication is that the Lord judges what is acceptable and what isn’t acceptable. And scripture tells us that what God loves is often offensive to humans. Yet the will of God always triumphs.
